ALLOTMENT FOXES

ALLOTMENT

FOXES

GATED COMMUNITY

Allotments not only provide us humans with a place to grow our own organic fruit and vegetables, they also give nature a fighting chance in the built up concrete jungle. They provide a habitat for all manner of animals, including the beautiful red fox.

Compared to surrounding noisy streets packed with humans going about their daily routines, urban allotments are often much quieter. Many are locked so that only plot holders can enter. During the night, they will mostly be devoid of human activity, so foxes will have the place to themselves. The relatively quiet surroundings provide foxes with a peaceful place to rest, hunt, and raise a family.

Urban foxes living in allotments often face territorial challenges, as they are sought after locations by rival foxes. Maintaining such a territory requires a dominant and powerful and dog fox. During the mating season, rival males will fight for the best places to raise the next generation and only the strongest will secure the best territories. Once dominance has been asserted, a family of foxes will have a safer place to raise the next generation.
