Initially the cubs were very wary of any humans and any wrong move meant they would retreat back into the safety of their den, under a raised temporary building. After about 3 weeks I had a breakthrough, whilst their mother was keeping a watchful eye out for any threats and the father was out scavenging for food. The cubs had become relatively relaxed in my presence and I was able to get close enough to photograph them, capturing their wonderful playful behaviour.
This was a turning point, with the cubs gradually becoming bolder and bolder. I was fortunate enough to be able to photograph them from this time until they were fully grown. After spending many hours with them and learning how to identify individuals in the group I noticed the subtleties in the family dynamics. This pair had a strong bond from the very beginning, rarely seeing them apart. They were always evenly matched when it came to fighting, also both being top of the pecking order when getting food from their parents. To me this image sums up their personalities, and their overall relationship.
